Crossroads Young Carers Project have scooped £61,094 from the Big Lottery Fund's regional People's Millions contest.
The St Ives-based Young Carers Project is aimed at children and young people across Huntingdonshire under the age of 19 whose lives are restricted by their caring responsibilities for a family member who has a disability, long-term illness, mental health problem or who misuses drugs or alcohol.
But the group was hit by the loss of a lottery grant earlier this year, and had to reduce the number of children it gave support and much-needed breaks to.
Things are now looking brighter after ITV Anglia West viewers voted for the project to win the award after a nail biting head-to-head contest for community votes.
However, the money is a one-off payment, and the project will still need more cash to survive.
The Town Crier has been raising money for the Young Carers Project with our We Care Appeal.
