Legs and arms everywhere, trying drastically to keep up with line dancing steps to a Dusty Springfield classic – this was not how this 27-year-old pictured spending her Saturday night.
But all in the name of charity I went along to the Town Crier We Care Appeal dance – starring local 50s and 60s popsters Musical Tributes – and actually ended up enjoying myself immensely.

Bopping along to tunes from when my parents were young whippersnappers, the dance was raising money for Huntingdonshire's Young Carers, and I found myself singing along to the words of more than a few famous songs.
The evening, which was generously staged by singers Fiona McLean and Peter Day free of charge, raised £1,300 for the appeal.

The event on Saturday (March 1) has helped boost the Town Crier We Care Appeal fund hugely and it is now heading towards the £5,000 mark – halfway towards our target of £10,000.

Fiona's singing was fantastic, and on top of her powerful voice, she interacted with the audience spectacularly, getting the most sober of people to jump up and join in.

Peter's performance was split into two parts. The first, a wonderful rendition of some classic tunes from the golden days of rock and roll. The second was an Elvis tribute from the Vegas era, which was second only to the king himself.

And there were even some star guests. Young Carers Project worker Lucy Francklin attended the event with two young carers to explain to the audience where their generous donations were going.

Lucy added: "The evening was a great success, I'm sure everyone enjoyed themselves while raising money for this worthwhile project.

"A big thank you to everyone for the effort put in, especially to Fiona Mclean and Peter Day for organising the event and for a brilliant show."
Fiona first came to the Town Crier before Christmas, offering her support for the campaign after caring for her son Ben for many years, and appealing for a venue.

The Priory Centre in St Neots then kindly offered the use of their main hall free of charge, and thanks to the hard work of everyone involved ticket sales soared with more than 100 people attending the event.

Fiona added: "Thanks to everyone who came along on Saturday night. We are so pleased to have helped raise money for these young people. Peter and I had a great time doing the event and hope everyone enjoyed the music and fun."

A big thank you goes out to the helpers on the night who made the event possible – Lesley and Kristina from Huntingdonshire Business Network, Ann, Anthony and Fran from Cholchester and Fiona's daughter Katrina and son Ben.
