A group of St Neots residents are lobbying Cambridgeshire County Council in a bid to sort out the 'atrocious' state of their road.
A total of 108 people have signed a petition to resurface Almond Road and its pavements.

Town councillor Alan Cummings said people the problem becomes much worse when it rains as the crooked surface does not allow the water to drain away properly, often flooding the street.

Resident Norah Slater, 92, walks with the help of a trolley and struggles to navigate the crooked surface.

Mrs Slater said: "It's awful when it rains and the pavement is atrocious. Sometime I can't go out, and have to wait for someone to come along."

Mrs Slater, who can only see out of one eye, is also concerned about how quickly vehicles drive down the street, which houses 28 homes, a school, a pre-school, a doctors surgery and a dental practice.

She added: "The cars go streaming down here and don't think about people trying to cross.

"It's not fair when you pay your taxes the same as anyone else and you get nothing done."

Cllr Cummings presented the petition to Huntingdonshire's Traffic Management Area Joint Committee (AJC), a committee of parish, district and county councillors who decide whether to adopt schemes, at the end of last year.

Although the appeal was initially rejected, Cllr Cummings, with the help of county councillor Sandie Giles, persuaded the committee to review the situation again at it's next meeting in July.

Chairman of the AJC county Cllr Mac McGuire said Almond Road would be reviewed in the 2009/10 condition survey.

He added that the council has to do a review of speed limits on all A and B roads by 2011, and that priority had to be given to roads used the most.
