Hundreds of village phone lines hit by cable theft
About 300 homes in the villages of Toseland and Yelling have been left without telephone lines after thieves stole underground cable.
Extra patrols are being conducted in the villages following the theft which is believed to have happened between midnight and 6am today (Thursday, March 13).
About 150 metres of cable was stolen just outside Toseland beside the road that connects it to the A428.
British Telecom are working to restore the lines.
Police officers are patrolling the area offering residents reassurance and keeping them updated on the situation. The mobile police station is also in the area.
Inspector Adrian Love said: "We have police officers on the ground, the situation is in hand and BT are working to get the lines back up as quickly as possible.
"I would urge people to check on the welfare of elderly or vulnerable residents and do not hesitate to approach police officers on patrol."
Anyone with information about the theft should contact police on 0845 456 456 4, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
