The first piece of turf has been laid on the roof garden of a striking new building in St Neots.
Chairman of Huntingdonshire District Council Cllr John Davies performed the honours at the creativexchange building on Monday (July 14).
The creativexchange has been created especially for businesses within the creative industries sector, such as marketing, advertising, architecture, software development and fashion design.

It is the result of a partnership between Huntingdonshire District Council, Longsands College, the Department for Communities and Local Government, the East of England Development Agency, and the Greater Cambridge Partnership.

Located on the Longsands campus in St Neots, the high specification, four-storey, state-of-the-art office building has an unusual design and overlooks mature parkland.

A 'working garden' on the roof allows great views over Priory Park.
The building will offer a choice of 14 enclosed units plus an open plan area with rentable desk space. It is expected that around 50 people will be working within the building.

Tenants will also have access to training opportunities and specialist advice, all within a creative working environment with fellow entrepreneurs.

Cllr Davies said: "This is a fantastic example of partnership working, as within just two years this building has gone from concept to near completion.

"This is a unique opportunity for small businesses to grow within an environment which offers them a comprehensive business support programme, giving them help and advice from day one. Many congratulations to everyone involved."

The 14 units on offer range in size, including the option to rent a desk in an open plan area. Tenancy agreements will be flexible and space in the building includes private meeting rooms, communal meeting areas and business advice and support. The building is expected to be ready to open this autumn.

>> Anyone wishing to register an interest as a potential tenant can contact Julie Drummond, senior economic and development officer at Huntingdonshire District Council, on 01480 387086.
