October 6, 12.45pm: Homes and businesses in St Neots have been cut off from the electricity supply.
Some High Street stores such as Woolworths and Nationwide have shut due to power cut, which happened at about 11.30am today (October 6).

Estimates were that power would be off until 2pm - some customers were reconnected quickly but many had to wait at least two hours before the supply was restored.

The library, Priory Centre and the Town Crier have all been affected by the power outage.

Elsewhere in the town, Waitrose has remained open but has closed its frozen food section.

The Bakers Oven are still open, but are using pen and paper rather than their tills.

The Bridge House Inn has also been affected. Landlady Michelle Clayton said: "We've had to turn customers away. The only thing we can do is pour pints, we can't use the till, or cook food.

"If the power doesn't come back soon we could lose a couple thousand pounds worth of stock."

A spokeswoman for electricity supplier EDF Energy said today: "1,811 homes and businesses lost power at 11.04am in St Neots.

"Within four minutes, power had been restored to 740 customers and by 12.33pm all but 545 were reconnected."

Power was restored to the remaining customers at 1.15pm. The cause is still being investigated.

However did they cope with having to add up instead of having tills and computers to do it for them ?
