ST Ives Town will face local rivals St Neots Town in the league cup after Scott Fielding made it eight goals in six games.
UCL League Knockout Cup St Ives Town 1 Sleaford 0St Ives welcomed the return of goalkeeper Robin MacKney after a short lay-off with a knee injury.
This was the keepers first game of the season and he was rewarded with a clean s
heet by making a string of fine saves in the first half to keep Sleaford at bay.
The deadlock was broken after 12 minutes when a mistake by the Sleaford keeper allowed Fielding to loop the ball into the back of the net from an acute angle.
The Sleaford keeper was certainly the busiest of the two throughout the first half, but he managed to keep the scoreline respectable.
The second half was certainly more positive for the away side with many more passages of possession.
However, Saints are in good form and their defence held tight with sound performances from Tim Quay and Will Fordham.
St Ives also created several chances of their own in the second half but failed to make the game safe until the final whistle.
Keeper MacKney said after the game: "It was good to be back playing after several weeks on the sidelines and it was even better to keep a clean sheet."
First team coach Errol McCammon added: "It was mission accomplished and a good clean sheet, but we do need to be more disciplined in possession at times."
St Ives face a trip up the A1 on Saturday against Yaxley and the reserves face a tricky game at home to Long Buckby Reserves at Westwood Road, St Ives.

Five-star Fielding thrills the fans
UCL Premier Division
Bourne Town 2
St Ives Town 8"IT was like watching Brazil" quipped one St Ives Town fan after this ten-goal thriller.
St Ives overwhelmed the in-form Bourne at Abbey Lawn, despite Bourne appearing to have a full strength team.
It proved to be a good day at the office for Scott Fielding as he netted five goals for the Saints.
His account was opened after just 23 minutes. Following some hard work from Liam Kennett, Fielding drilled in a shot to break the deadlock.
Just six minutes later he bundled the ball over the line, again from a Kennett cross.
On the half hour mark Kennett found himself one-on-one with the keeper and slotted home to make it 3-0.
A confident St Ives went in at half time planning to continue the rout but Bourne got themselves back into the game to make it 3-1.
It wasn't long before Saints recaptured the initiative, with Fielding completing his hat-trick after 65 minutes with a fine header from a long ball from Dan Moyes.
Two minutes later he scored again, and added his fifth on the 75-minute mark to bring his tally to seven goals in five games and earning him the UCL Golden Boot for August.
After 80 minutes, Bourne were reduced to 10 men with Dane Harper being sent off.
They still managed to score another consolation goal after Dan Newman gave away a penalty.
Although Saints keeper James Jackson saved well, a Bourne player was first to the follow up.
At 6-2 the Saints still pushed forward, and two further goals followed from Dan Pilsworth and an injury time strike by Jason King to finish off a fine display.
The victory is a record win for the club in the UCL Premier Divison.
Joint managers Warren Everdell and Jez Hall were in buoyant moods after the game.
Hall said: "It wasn't that Bourne were a bad side because they are not, we were just at the top of our game.
"This result was perfect for us as it shows everyone that we are contenders for the league title."
MoM Fielding added: "It was great to get five goals in a game but the whole squad worked hard and we deserved the win.
"Our thoughts are back to the UCL Cup on Tuesday night at home to Sleaford."
