A teenage girl was followed and grabbed by a youth as she walked home from a night out in St Ives.

The assault happened at about 12.30am on Saturday, August 9, as the 19-year-old victim walked near Wheatfields School, in Wheatfields, St Ives.

She had seen the youth earlier, who had whistled and then started to follow her.

The attacker ran up from behind and grabbed her but she hit him and managed to run to a friend's house.

The victim injured her hand in the incident and received treatment at Hinchingbrooke Hospital, in Huntingdon.

The attacker was described as white, in his late teens or early 20s, and wearing a black and white hooded top.

Police are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time to consider whether they saw anyone acting suspiciously.

Anyone with information should contact DC Andrew Gaunt-Warner on 0845 456 456 4, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
