Refurbishment brings mental health services under one roof
Mental Health staff across Huntingdonshire will be working more effectively under one roof following the refurbishment of the Newtown Centre and Park House in Huntingdon into one building.
The new building will be home for staff working for children's, adults and older people's mental health services, and also the eating disorder service. The building work and refurbishment has taken place in three phases over two and a half years.
The official opening of the Nursery Road site took place yesterday (Thursday, June 26).
Chief executive of the Trust, Karen Bell, said: "The refurbishment of Newtown Centre means we have a new waiting area which is very user friendly and child-focused. This will be a huge improvement for service users.
"For children's services, the building work has provided significantly better layout and therapy rooms for children and their families and has allowed us to provide new equipment for our play therapy rooms and waiting area. Our community mental health staff will also be based here to improve team working and make better use of resources."
A wide range of mental health services are provided from Newtown Centre working with individuals and families. In addition, the Children's Learning Disability and Young Users (YOUS) services are now located at the site as well. The Alzheimer's Society rent office space in the building, and rooms can be arranged for local voluntary mental health groups if they wish.
If there are any local voluntary mental health groups who would like to make use of rooms at Newtown Centre, they can contact reception on 01480 415340.
