There were smiles all round at one primary school after Ofsted inspectors heaped praise on staff, pupils and management.
"Outstanding" was the grade recorded in every category at Ashbeach Primary in Ramsey St Mary's, where parents and pupils alike are overwhelmingly positive about its work.

The Ofsted inspector rated teaching and learning, the curriculum, achievement, management and leadership all as outstanding,
She said the most striking features of the school, which has 142 pupils aged four to 11, were the outstanding curriculum and impressive outdoor facilities.

"The curriculum is outstanding with many exemplary features. Most significant is the way first-hand experience is promoted through the school's outdoor facilities."

Teaching was judged as outstanding and assessment was very thorough.
The report said: "Lessons are planned exceptionally well to provide a variety of activities that engage pupils' interest. As a result, pupils concentrate extremely well, are prepared to think deeply and are eager to express their ideas. Teachers are confident in the subjects they teach and innovative in the methods they use.

"Pupils say that teachers make learning fun. Older pupils in particular display a wealth of skills that exceed those normally found amongst children of their age," the inspector reported.

"Achievement is outstanding and standards are above average, exceptionally so in speaking and listening. Children get off to a flying start in the foundation stage," the report added.
The report highlights the way the school cares for its pupils and the progress they make in their personal development which were both outstanding.

"Pupils have very positive attitudes to learning and their enjoyment of school is exceptional.
"Spiritual, moral, social and cultural development is outstanding. Pupils say that they feel very safe and relationships are excellent throughout the school. Pupils make an outstanding contribution to the life of the school and undertake many jobs," said the inspector's report.

Leadership and management of the school were also described as outstanding.

"The leadership of the curriculum is inspirational: leaders are innovative and dynamic, readily embracing national and international initiatives.

"This has given rise to a primary school with some highly original features. Teamwork throughout the school is strong. Governance is good," the report concluded.

The school was encouraged to refine the way information from data is used to evaluate the school's effectiveness.
Headteacher Hazel Lambert said: "We are utterly delighted with this report which recognises the creativity of our innovative and inspirational team who make learning fun, challenging and realistic for our children.

"Our achievement would not be possible without the strong commitment of our parents, governors and community as well as the enthusiasm of our children."
