Get down to your local recycling centre this Bank Holiday Monday - it's open
Recycling centres across Cambridgeshire will be open for business this Bank Holiday Monday as people traditionally tidy up their gardens and spring clean.
All ten Cambridgeshire County Council sites will be open on the Bank Holiday Mondays in May, with Sunday opening hours applying.
All the sites accept household rubbish, which includes everything from timber, metal and glass to bulkier items such as old washing machines, cookers, fridges and furniture.
Household electrical items such as old and broken lamps, alarm clocks, hairdryers, toasters, kettles, landline and mobile telephones, computer monitors and keyboards, stereos or record players and lots more can all be taken to the Recycling Centres.
All household electrical and electronic items will be reused or recycled.
The recycling centres are able to accept a wide range of materials and save around two thirds of the rubbish that comes through their gates from ending up in landfill.
If you are planning a spring-clean, or re-decorating a room in your house this weekend, think twice before you throw things straight in the bin.
Nick Tempest, Cambridgeshire County Council's Waste Operations Manager
said: "We encourage you to take advantage of your local Recycling Centre. Our friendly staff will help you find out how you can recycle a huge range of things. Only about one-third of the materials taken to Recycling Centres end up in landfill, so it really is a very efficient and easy way to recycle your household waste".
In addition to using the larger recycling centres, residents can take smaller items such as cans, glass and paper to the local recycling banks located on street corners and car parks across the county.
