Firefighters were called to a factory blaze in St Neots during the early hours of this morning (Friday, September 26).
A Hazardous Materials Unit was also sent to help control the fire at PhotoFabrication Ltd on Cromwell Road in Eynesbury at 2.40am.

Crews from St Neots, Gamlingay and Huntingdon were called to the factory, where firefighters discovered that the building was heavily smoke locked.

A spokesman for the fire service said: "Nobody was in the factory at the time, and the fire was discovered in a room at the rear of the building used for cleaning metal, and firefighters worked hard to keep the fire confined to the room."

The blaze was eventually put out at 4.50am, but not before police were forced to close Cromwell Road for the safety of the public.

Firefighters discovered that the machinery inside the room had been completely destroyed and the rest of the room was heavily fire damaged.

Nick Foster, incident commander for the fire service, said: "Crews did a fantastic job in locating the fire so quickly - because of this they were able to stop it from spreading and affecting the rest of the factory.

"The hazardous materials unit was deployed as a there are a number of chemicals stored on the site, but because we were quickly able to get to the location of the fire, there was no threat to public safety."

A fire investigation will take place this morning, however the incident is not being treated as suspicious.
