The talented Sawtry-based men's harmony chorus Vocal Academy are getting tuned up for the autumn season – and is offering free singing lessons for men.
If you have been inspired by the BBC's programmes The Choir or Last Choir Standing, or just enjoy singing then this is the chance for you to shine.
Covering basic vocal techniques, the course begins on Wednesday, September 10 at Sawtry Junior School and runs for eight weeks. Each session is one hour from 8pm and followed by refreshments – that's eight hours of entirely free tuition. What's more, the choir guarantee it will be fun and along the way you will learn to sing several popular songs in close harmony.
If you sing regularly in another choir or group, this course will give you the chance to try something new or just brush up on vocal technique.
If you are a complete novice at singing, this course will help you find your voice and boost your confidence.
A spokesman for the choir said: "If you've never sung in public before or don't read music don't worry. There will be nothing to embarrass you and you'll be given a cassette tape or CD as well as sheet music - and lots of guidance - to help you learn the songs. Whatever your background, if singing is your thing, this course has something for you."
>> Forthcoming performances in by Vocal Academy include:
September 29: Chatteris Working Men's Club, Good companions 50th birthday.
October 11: All Saints' Church, Grafham in aid of the church repair fund.
December 6 – Vocal Academy and friends Christmas show, Sawtry Community College.
Vocal Academy was formed in 2001 when a group of men who enjoy singing all kinds of music decided to get together once a week to practice their hobby. The choir is directed by Graham Davies.
