The Huntingdonshire Concert Band ( HCB ) will be giving their annual Wings Appeal concert for the Royal Air Forces Association in the Free Church, St Ives on Saturday (September 20) featuring a wide variety of music to celebrate 90 years of the RAF.
The theme for this concert is Sky High! and will feature a number of flying pieces – Dam Busters, Where Eagles Dare – as well as a piece actually called Skyhigh.

There will also be a little known piece by James Curnow entitled Where never Lark or Eagle flew inspired by a poem written by a WW2 airman, Pilot Officer Magee, shortly before he was killed aged only 19.

There will be some community singing (Songs of the early Airmen ) for those inclined but also numbers that have proved popular in previous concerts such as Sinatra in Concert and Summer of 42 by Michel LeGrand. There will even be some jazz with Swing's the Thing and Jazz Waltz.

All in all a very varied programme for a popular annual concert that has always been well attended, so book now.

Tickets are £6, concessions £5 by calling 01480 450656 or from the Free Church Shop 01480 496570.
