More homes are not wanted
>> So St Neots is going to get even more homes foistered upon it (Town Crier, June 5).
The town is rapidly losing its identity and becoming nothing more than a sleeping place for London workers.
This will surely only make matters worse.
Cllr Peter Bucknell says that we need to grow to get more facilities.
I'm sorry but he's got that completely round the wrong way.
St Neots is desperate for new facilities such as the farce that has become the cinema, as well as better shops and better places to play sport.
I was pleased that the football club benefited from Love's Farm, but they keep adding new homes to the town we'll soon need a 30,000 seater stadium.
Cllr Bucknell also says the town has room to expand as it has good transport links.
Has he ever driven through the town centre? Or ever through any of the main access routes in rush hour?
The town simply cannot cope with any more traffic, unless there are plans for a money-making congestion charge like Manchester, which I wouldn't put past our local politicians.
I also want to know where the need for these new homes is coming from. Most young people haven't be able to afford to get on the housing ladder for years, and the state of the economy is so grim that schemes across the country are being put on hold.
I just can't see there being much uptake for them.
All this will achieve is another fat cheque finding it's way into a landowner's pocket.

>> So Huntingdonshire is to get even more homes. And who exactly is going to live in them?
The answer is simple – yet more Londoners.
Still, at least we'll probably get a new community centre out of it - about five miles from the edge of town.

Will insurance be next for NHS?
>> Regarding the recent news about a private company possibly taking over the management of Hinchingbrooke Hospital (Town Crier, May 15).
I think it is likely that the Labour Government are forcing the health authority to move into private medical services which those who are employed will have to take out insurance for and those in receipt of benefits of any kind may be able to access free of charge.
At least, that's the best possible outcome if that is their plan. I once thought that only the Tories would privatise the NHS.
Of course, if we all looked after ourselves a bit better, drank and smoked less and took regular exercise, and maybe ate less processed food, we may be less of a burden on the NHS and its services could be used by those with non self-induced problems.
I'm sure Nye Bevan, founder of the NHS in post-war Britain, didn't envisage catering for the over-indulgence that has since burdened his vision of free health care for all.

Appeals for family information
>> I am looking for the family of the late Emily Elizabeth Smith (nee Pridmore) who was born on November 13 1896 in Kimbolton and died on April 23 1985 whilst living at Great North Road in Wyboston.
Emily was married to the late Charles Frederick Smith and I know they had three sons Alfred, Charles and Stanley.
If anyone knows of their family, please can they contact me at my address or on 07979 342529 (after 6pm) as I would dearly love to get in touch with them.

>> Please could anyone help with tracing my cousin Anna nee Eaton now Hoskin(s).
Our fathers were members of a very large family (13 brothers and one sister) and we are about to hold a family re-union.
However, Anna is the only living member of the family who has not been traced. We have good cause for our re-union and feel that she would be pleased to know.
The following is the only information we have about her.
Her father's name was Joe Eaton and her mother's name was Ella.
As a child she lived in The Close in Papworth Everard. Anna would be around 64-years-old and married Brian Hoskin(s) in Singapore on March 9, 1963.
They had two children, Mark and Peter and their last known address was West Street, Godmanchester.
If anyone has any information I would be very grateful to hear from you.

Domestic abuse
>> Having suffered domestic abuse first hand more than 20 years ago I was pleased to see the police taking the matter seriously (Town Crier, June 5).
When I was seriously assaulted by my then partner, I found there to be little support and it was only through my family that I managed to get out.
Praise should also go to local solicitors who have offered their valuable time free to sufferers of what is a horrible, but often hidden, crime.
